NAIC Issues Alert About Fake Emails
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has issued a warning related to a phishing scam targeting insurance producers. The phishing scam consists of an email regarding a falsified insurance claim that has been submitted to the NAIC. Insurance producers in Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin have reported receiving these emails.
The fraudulent email displays the NAIC and CIPR logos and presents itself as being sent from firstname.lastname@example.org or someone using a Gmail email account representing themselves as the NAIC. The email asks the recipient to click on a link to download the complaint notification. The emails are actually from a fraudulent account and will infect a computer with malware if the recipient opens the attachment.
Some anti-virus products will detect that this is a malicious email. However, if you receive a similar email and have any concerns, please contact the NAIC Service Desk at 816-783-8500.
